Shop | Fired Up!

I think this post should really be named Shop, Learn, Relax, Heal, Explore and Discover: Fired Up! That is what I think Fired Up! really is to me. Technically it is a paint your own ceramics studio in Victoria B.C. where you pick your piece, design it and get it fired.

Recently it was my Mum’s birthday and I know she loves handmade gifts and I know she loves Hawaii so I decided to make her a little plate with the Hawaiian sunset and something on it. I went to Fired Up! and decided on a size of plate and the colours that I wanted from their “Butterly Wall” of paints that show what the colours look like after they’ve been fired. I then decided to look into silkscreens and I found a humpback whale to use!

If you want to try something a little more free hand too you can use washable markers (they totally burn off in the kiln) to draw on your piece and then use paint pens! I decided to write Family and Ohana, which is family in Hawaiian to finish the whole Hawaiian theme of the plate.

After you finish your piece you leave it at Fired Up! and they do all the magic, aka fire it in the kiln and you can pick it up in a week from when you drop it off! I gave my mum her plate when she was in Victoria visiting me and then we went for a fabulous supper at Part and Parcel!

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed the insight into painting your own ceramics at Fired Up! and come and try it for yourself!

P.S. This may be a gray whale not a humpback whale, but at some point isnt a whale just a whale?

P.P.S. In case you were wondering I actually work at Fired Up! as well, I love it but even if I didn’t work there too I would love it. Happy painting!
