Event | Longwoodstock 2015!

Well, friends, it’s the last day of August. Summer is officially beginning to wind down – with school starting in a little over a week, soon the days of swimming, laying out on the beach, bbq’s, night drives with your windows down and a warm breeze in your hair, and hitting up outdoor concerts will be no more.

One of the biggest bashes this summer was Longwood Brewery‘s inaugural Longwoodstock Festival. I’d even go as far to say that it was my favourite event ALL SUMMER. I mean, let’s be honest here – the tagline was Beer. Music. Food. and if that doesn’t whet your whistle then we can’t be friends (joking… sorta).

LOOK at my media pass. I felt so fancy.

I am a sucker for a good concert. I’m even more of a sucker for a good concert that features local musicians AND raises funds for a local charity. Then if you throw some local craft beer and delicious local eats, I’m dead at the scene.

Longwoodstock, aka Longwood Brewery’s Summer Backlot Bash, featured 7 artists, all of whom are native to the west coast. Hazen Sage, Band of Rascals, JP Maurice, Lovecoast, Carmanah, Dope Soda, and Vince Vaccaro all took to Longwoodstock’s stage to deliver top notch performances.

If I wasn’t rocking my face off in the stage crowd, you could find me exploring the rest of the grounds, soaking up Longwoodstock’s “open” beer-fest-style atmosphere. Off to the side of the stage, you could find festival-goers enjoying games of yard pong and giant jenga (uhh what? fun). Remember the beer and food I mentioned? Yea, let’s not forget about that.

Mambo Gourmet Pizza was dishin’ out their infamous pizzas while Longwood Brewery had a BBQ station where their chef was flipping juicy burgers.

Ok, wait these donuts got me forgetting something. Music – check. Food – check. What am I missing? Oh yea. The beer. Obviously, since this festival was put on by Longwood Brewery, there would be some of their tasty brews on hand. They wouldn’t leave you hangin’ like that. Aside from serving up 5 of their usual brews, Longwood made a special brew just for Longwoodstock (sorry if you missed it – this beer was exclusive to the festival).

Merridale Estate Cidery was also on hand to tickle your tastebuds with some of the finest ciders on the island.

The festival ran from 1pm-9:30pm with not one but TWO after parties featuring music from Bananafish Dance Orchestra and Chasing Satellites. I wish I had the energy to attend, but I’m a grandma and 1am is way past my bedtime.

Longwoodstock is a non-profit event – all profit from this event was donated to Serauxmen Service Club in Nanaimo who help children, families, and groups in need around the Harbour City.

Like I said: my fav event of the summer and I can’t wait to attend next year. I’m hoping Longwoodstock will make it’s way on to Nanaimo’s roster of annual summer events because this one’s a keeper.

I wanna know, if you were at Longwoodstock, what was your favourite part of the festival? Let me know in the comments!
