I love the month of May. Aside from Mother’s Day, warm weather, my birthday, another Marvel movie in theatres, and the promise of summer around the corner, May means the start of Farmers Market season. To get you prepped for a fruitful season (see what I did there?) I’ve compiled a list of Nanaimo & Area farmers markets starting up this month:
Last Saturday (May 2nd), the Errington Farmers Market opened its doors for its 42nd year! You can find fresh farm produce, soaps, flowers, textiles, live music, and more all under the canopy of shade trees in beautiful Errington Community Park.
You can visit the Errington Farmers Market every Saturday from 10am-1pm.
Although the Qualicum Beach Farmers Market is open year-round, the market spends winters indoors. Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to move the market back outside! This also means that the market expands from 30 vendors (in its winter season) to over 60 vendors!
Starting last Saturday (May 2nd) the QBFM is open Saturdays from 8:30am-12pm.
The Cedar Farmers Market, which boasts over 70 full-time vendors, opens its doors this season on Sunday, May 10th. As one of the regions largest farmers markets, you can find an array of meats, cheeses, produce, crafts, art, and baked goods.
The Cedar Farmers Market runs on Sundays from 10am-2pm.
Held on the VIEx grounds in Beban Park, the Bowen Road Farmers’ Market is in its 7th year working hard to provide you with the freshest farm produce! Although there is lots of produce to be found, you can also find baked goods, flowers, pet items, and more!
Catch the Bowen Road Farmers’ Market, starting May 13th, on Wednesdays from 4pm-6:30pm.
Teaming up with the Downtown Nanaimo BIA, the Nanaimo Downtown Farmers Market is starting its 2015 season fresh! Now known as the Bastion Waterfront Market, “Nanaimo’s original Farmers Market” opens its doors for a new season at a new time on Friday, May 15th. The Bastion Waterfront Market is located on the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza offering scenic views of Nanaimo’s beautiful downtown harbour. This market also hosts fun themed markets like last years’ “Kid’s Day” and “Dog Days” markets!
The Bastion Waterfront Market is held on Fridays at its new time from 2pm-6pm.
“Make it, bake it, grow it, raise it” is the motto of the Lantzville Farmers Market. Which means you can expect to find fresh produce, artisan crafts, homemade treats, and more. Oh! Don’t forget about the locally crafted beer, gin, and wine!
Head to the Lantzville Farmers Market starting May 17th where they run on Sundays from 1:30pm-4pm.
The Parksville Museum Farmers Market’s 2014 inaugural year was so successful that it’s back for a second year! This is a great Friday night market that features live music, fresh produce, delicious baked goods, and tasty treats. Bonus: check out the Craig Heritage Museum while you’re there!
Starting May 22nd, you can visit the Parksville Museum Farmers Market on Friday nights from 5pm-8pm.
Time to get your market on!
